2024 TAZ Race Qualifications

For each race you want to do, you must complete the weekly mileage through team practices or a combination of OC1/OC6/Perg/Running.  Dragon boating counts for half of your practice. 

Weekday practices (Tues, Thurs, Sat): OC6 goes 6 miles

Saturday practices: OC6 goes 7-10 miles until July. August-September OC6 goes 15 miles.

Club OC1 can be loaned DURING club practices. Please make arrangements with the coach running practice and you MUST BE DONE BEFORE club practice ends.  

We will borrow and bring Pergs out every other Saturday for you to get your time in.  We will set up separate Heja practice for you to sign up for club OC1 and Perg time trials.   It is up to you to make sure you make you sign up and reserve your time.



Havasu Heat (April 6, 2024)

Short course (4-5 miles)

Required Mileage per week: 6

Long Course (10-11 miles)

Required Mileage per week: 12

Race Fee due: $40 due 3/16/2024


SCORA Races

Short courses (5-6 miles in the bay)

Required Mileage per week: 8 miles

Long Course (11-13 miles open water)

Required Mileage per week: 15 miles for long course paddlers, 8 miles for short course paddlers

Perg: minimum 1 X 30 minute time trial per race (repeatable if time and availability allow). Drag setting will be set at 5.

Crystal Pier Race Fee due: $35 due 4/20/2024

Long Beach Race Fee due: $35 due 5/18/2024

Iron Champs Race Fee due: $35 due 5/25/2024


Chesapeake Bay 9man (July 20, 2024)

Course: 35 miles open water

Required Mileage per week: 18 miles + 2 changes (We will have non-moving changes every Sunday practice)

Perg: minimum 1 X 30 minute time trial per race (repeatable if time and availability allow). Drag setting will be set at 5.

OC1: 6 mile time trial.  You must complete 6 miles in 1:10 hour (can be done anytime but you must submit your tracking information)

Seattle Race (Da Grind) (July 27, 2024) 

Course: 12 miles open water

Required Mileage per week: 15 miles

Perg: minimum 1 X 30 minute time trial per race (repeatable if time and availability allow). Drag setting will be set at 5.

Race Fee: $tbd due 7/4/2024


SCORA 9-man Races
(Dana, Oceanside, Catalina)

Course: 18-32 miles open water

Required Mileage per week: 18 miles + 2 changes (We will have non-moving changes every Sunday practice)

Perg: minimum 1 X 30 minute time trial per race (repeatable if time and availability allow). Drag setting will be set at 5.

OC1: 6 mile time trial.  You must complete 6 miles in 1:10 hour (can be done anytime but you must submit your tracking information)

Na Wahine/Molokai (September 29 & October 13, 2024)

Course (42 miles open water)

Required Mileage per week: 18 miles in July,  24 miles in August/September (2 moving changes apply like 9 man races above. If you cannot do a moving change by yourself, you will NOT qualify)

Perg: minimum 1 X 30 minute time trial per race (repeatable if time and availability allow). Drag setting will be set at 5.

OC1: 6 mile time trial starting in July. You must complete 6 miles in 1:07 hour for July, 1:06 hour in August, 1:05 in September (men only).

Additional requirements: 

  • run/walk/treadmill 5K EVERY week (can be done anytime but you must send us the tracking information)
  • You MUST do 2 change races prior to these races
